Ribe — Denmark's oldest city
Ribe, Denmark's oldest city, dates back to the Viking era. It
played an important role in the early 8th century because of its
location close to the water. Today, Ribe is a city of great charm,
with old houses, cobbled streets and an impressive cathedral.
Ribe Cathedral - now with 3 Michelin
stars
Ribe boasts the oldest cathedral in Denmark, which has become the
city's trademark. The Michelin Guide has awarded it three stars,
the tourist bible's highest possible accolade for an attraction.
The 52m high tower can be accessed through the church. (Children
under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.)
Follow the night watchmen
In the old days, the watchman's job was to keep law and order in
the city's streets at night. In Ribe, he would also warn citizens
about impending floods. During the summer, the night watchman still
patrols his traditional route through the old town.
